Summer is early in Sweden. 25 degrees in the south is quite unique in April. An even in Lapland it has been very warm. We have still lots of snow in Kiruna, but is amazing how fast it is melting. Temperatures have been very nice at some occasions. As well as the last summer has been very nice, longer than any other summer I remember here, and nice and warm.
Still, it does not feel good. It disturbes me. And more and more people are saying that: nice, yes, but it is not good. We are feeling and seeing the whole ecosystem become out of balance. The global warming has moved from scientific reports to every day laife, to our personal experience.
I have seen the trees climbing up the mountains since my first visits at some places 25 years ago. What will our mountains look like in 50 years? What happens to the reindeer herding? And of course, our problems are small compared to some other areas.
We are to be stuarts of this creation. Many indigenous people have said that. The Bible also says that. Why, then, have so many western churches and western Christian societies forgotten this important point? We as Christians should be heading the environmental movements, we should be showing the way. Maybe our brothers and sisters among the indigenous peoples of the world can help us seeing that.
In the mean time, enjoy nature, enjoy creation. But let's respect creation, and in that way also respect the Creator.
